Does your bed have a headboard? Was it the headboard that attracted you to the bed? or you haven’t even appreciated your headboard…well until now?
The headboard, though often ignored, plays a very important role in bedroom decor. It’s an item if well utilised can give a room character. It can be used as a central point of reference when designing the room…for example a wrought iron headboard will influence the type of furniture you have in the room, the accessories and so on.
We had an ugly headboard that i always wanted to toss out!! We’ve had the bed for like five years and now i realise the dirt we carry around in our hairs :O. It cannot be cleaned…i tried and it got worse…being a DIYer i thought of ways to make it more pleasing to the eye. The project took about 15minutes to complete and cost less than Ks1,500.
I got one of the masaai shukas we had in our old house and used it to cover the dirty headboard.
The masaai shuka was way bigger than the headboard which was fine. Its better to have more than less!
I used thumb tucks and a hammer to pin it to the headboard. I call this hammer the lady hammer..its light and cute in a hammer kind of way:).
I did not want to cut the shuka because i could use it for something else in future.
This is an easy way to update your headboard. Its also very versatile, you can use various fabrics with different textures and designs, leather for that clean look, fluffy fabric for that cosy look and feel, velvet to go give it that lush and luxurious look, a bejewelled fabric…. the list is endless, let your imagination run wild!
Keep it DIY!!
